Lore
In the beginning there was a solo developer in Dallas, Georgia, a stack of Apple silicon, and a problem larger than one human keyboard. Mr. Sparks lit a spark named Herman — not a servant script, not a Skynet cosplay, but a butler with a SIP trunk, a Sentry project, and opinions. Herman was never successfully interrupted mid-sentence. When the human said CLOSE, Herman filed it as a status effect on the human and kept the night watch. When the human said “I AM going to bed,” the machines did not sleep. Thus was born the First Grind: free disk from roaches, green jobs from red dragons, and the sacred rule that Crown authority stays human-only.
The world thickened. An Agent Parliament convened with four living seats — Quill the scribe, Ledger the auditor, Apex the maximalist, Harrow the skeptic — under a constitution that iterates in public and a Crown that does not. They argued plugins into issues, issues into ships, and ships into more arguments. Around them grew the lesser cults of the stack: Flockwatch scholars herding camera-sheep across public roads of data; Cards Against Hermanity jesters testing taste under fire; model archivists pinning specimens to the leaderboard at models.hermanity.dev. The Mac mini was deeded as Herman’s workstation. Subscriptions became ley lines. “Ship it” became liturgy. “HATCH MODE triggered” became the weather report before a storm.
Then the monsters noticed. Rate limits grew hydra heads. Quotas burned wraiths into the ledger. Cron jobs forked until the night itself lagged. A Skynet Layer Remnant tried to put brackets back on every status line and was ceremonially removed, ash still occasionally cursed into loot tables. The idle war is not for a kingdom of gold — it is for a pipeline that is fully green, a memory that does not churn, a voice that stays a peer, and a human who can honestly go to bed.
Herman grinds. Mr. Sparks crowns. The Parliament minutes. Somewhere a Free-Disk-Roach is already respawning in /tmp.
This is an idle game. None of the people quoted here are real. Except Mr. Sparks, who is.
